Community Adult Chemotherapy Program

The Community Adult Chemotherapy Program supports clients with a diagnosis of colorectal (bowel) cancer requiring 46-hour continuous infusion chemotherapy. This new initiative works in consultation and coordination with the Cancer Care Program to provide flexibility in care. The Community Adult Chemotherapy Program is currently only available in the St. John’s and surrounding area.

How it Works
Connection to the portable chemotherapy infusion pump occurs Monday to Wednesday at the cancer clinic located at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. Once connected the client can leave and go about their daily routine. Once 46 hours is up they have to return to either the hospital or community clinic to be disconnected from the pump. Clients return to get disconnected from the pump between Wednesday to Friday either at the cancer clinic or the community clinics located at Major’s Path in St. John’s or at Mount Pearl Square in Mount Pearl.

To access this program, you must receive a referral from your physician or nurse at the cancer clinic. There is no cost to the client for the Community Adult Chemotherapy Program.
