Adolescent Medicine

Adolescent Medicine is a pediatric subspecialty that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis and management of health issues within the context of the biological, psychological and social development of adolescence. 
For example, concerns of youth may include:
  • eating disorders;
  • growth and development;
  • gynecology;
  • gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues;
  • organic chronic illness;
  • psychosocial issues;
  • psychosomatic complications (chronic fatigue);
  • school issues/bullying;
  • depression; and
  • anxiety.
The Adolescent Medicine Program is made up of an interdisciplinary team of health-care professionals, including:
  • physicians; 
  • nurse practitioner; 
  • clinical psychologist; 
  • social worker; and
  • a clinical dietitian.
Adolescents ages 12 to 17 may be seen through a referral from their current health-care provider.
