Learn for your child
You can help relieve some of your frustration and help your children grow by learning about child development.
Your child's experiences in the early months and years of life affect his/her health, well-being, and coping skills for the rest of his/her life. Your caring, nurturing, and safe parenting help ensure your baby's optimal development. During the toddler years, your child will grow and learn rapidly.
Child development is typically described in five areas:
  • physical
  • social
  • emotional
  • cognitive
  • language
While there are milestones, development is not a race. Each child grows and develops at his/her own pace.
You can support and guide your child’s development through activities in each of these four areas:
  • Learning to think and play
  • Seeing and using hands
  • Hearing, speech and language
  • Learning to move
